More on Reviews - Susan Evans

First of all, I neglected to put in Sandhills as one of our schools that will be involved in the Peer Review for Schoolwide projects.

The following information is for the Targeted Assistance Schools:
Targeted Assistance schools are required to do an annual review of program effectiveness, NDE has a rubric you are to use for this, it is called the “Targeted Assistance School Program Rubric” and can be found in PDF and Word format at this site. http://www.nde.state.ne.us/federalprograms/titlei/index.htm

Please note this is an annual requirement of Targeted Assistance programs but submitting the rubric to NDE is neither required or desired! This document will be looked at during the NCLB review.

Schoolwide Peer Reviews and Self Reviews - Susan Evans

It is time for the annual SW Peer Reviews. This year Ansley, Litchfield, and SEM are up for the peer review. They need to register for the review and send in 2 copies of their SW plans to NDE for review. Your superintendents have received information from NDE but I would be happy to forward any of the information to you if you need it. I know a couple schools are already registered and are working on their plans.

For those of you not "up" for peer review you still need to send in the Self-Review information by May 1. Again, your superintendents or Title I directors have this information but I would be glad to forward my information to you.

I hope to see you all on March 17th for our Spring Meeting. "SPRING", now that is a novel idea:)

Title I Spring Meeting - Susan Evans

After reviewing evaluations from the fall meeting and talking to several of you, I have a plan for the Spring Meeting. I have invited Roger Reikofski from NDE to our meeting. He will be sharing any new updates from the Feds and NDE regarding Title I. There will also be time to ask questions so please, come prepared with some questions for him, we want him to earn his pay! HA!
As I get more opportunities to review schoolwide plans and targeted rubrics I am finding that parent/family involvement is very sporadic and in some cases just includes parents attending ball games. I would like to share some ideas on how to create partnerships with our families that really are critical in creating a culture of learning. As Title teachers I feel that you are natural school leaders for this kind of work.
We will also have some time for sharing ideas! So please, come with something you would like to share with the rest of us that has worked for you, the sky is the limit!
We will break for lunch and there will be pizza and salad from Valentino's here but it will cost you $6.
The meeting will be on ODIE soon so that you can register.

Meet Your ESU 10 Title 1 Coop Coordinator - Susan Evans

My name is Susan Evans and I am serving as a Professional Development Coordinator for ESU 10. I have also accepted the responsibility of acting as the Title 1 contact. I promise to work hard to provide you, the Title 1 teachers, with the support you need and the support you were accustomed to receiving from Kim Jonas.

My passion is reading and the teaching of reading. The last three years of my career was spent as a literacy coach for the North Platte Public Schools. I was very fortunate to attend many trainings from national experts and I have done research on my own to keep abreast of the issues in reading education. It will be a pleasure for me to work with others that share that same passion for reading and student learning.

Our fall meeting is scheduled for October 7th from 9 until 2 at ESU 10 in Kearney. You can now register on ODIE. Julie Everett and I will be facilitating the meeting and we are very anxious to meet all of you and we hope we have a productive day. We plan on sharing Title 1 information as well as a session on vocabulary instruction. We will share strategies to teach the pronunciation of difficult to read words and strategies to teach the meaning of critical, unknown words. You may want to bring your reading manual or an article that you will be working with the following week so that we can design a vocabulary lesson to take back with you to use with your students.
